We started with the YMCA Father/Daughter program called the "Indian Princesses" around 8 years ago. They visit elementary schools in the area and recruit kindergarteners and first graders to pal up with their Dads. Between 5 and 10 families form a neighborhood "tribe' which meets monthly for a ceremonial get together and some crafts.
Another monthly event invites all of the tribes in the "Longhouse" to enjoy things together like roller skating, bike riding, skiing, and road rallies. The most popular events by far are the campouts. The Princesses had three annually - two at camp Kon-O-Kwee near Zelienople, PA. and one at Camp Deer Valley down by the Maryland border. The main attraction at Kon-O-Kwee is "Uncle Harry", the camp director, who tells the girls that "the camp belongs to them" for the weekend and the Dads can only do what they want.
After about three years in the Princesses the girls graduate to the "Trailmates". We no longer meet as tribes but still stick to the monthly events. Again the popular events are the campouts but now only one is held at a formal camp. The winter campout is held with "Uncle Harry" at Kon-O-Kwee and the other two are group campouts at local state parks.
Here are some pictures of recent campouts:
