The Indian Princess program is more closely associated with the local YMCA chapter than the Trailmates program. They still sponsor it but basically the Dad's and daughters do their own thing. The more popular events are the campouts. During the year two of them are group campouts. The fall campout is usually held at Moraine State Park. We set up in a field with an outhouse and tap water - that's it!
Over the years the Trailmates have accumulated quite a setup. Everyone brings their own tents but everything for the meals is provided . . . stoves, coolers, utensils, mountain pie makers . . . the works. The meals are primo! Breakfast is eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, french toast, oatmeal, cereal, etc. Dinner is the best steaks this side of the Mississippi. . . . potatoes . . . . with onion, with cheeses, or plain . . . mushrooms, onions, green peppers . . . topped off with bernaisse sauce . . . fresh salad . . .chili . . .
Besides offering the great outdoors, Moraine State Park offers a variety of entertainment. The 7 miles bike path is the most popular. Other favorites are the pontoon boats, fishing and sailing. Unfortunately, the swimming beaches are closed down since we visit before the start of the season.
A favorite event is the annuals Dad's versus daughters free-for-all soccer game. We all know the rules . . . enough to kick the ball around . . .but it soon degenerates into a mixture of soccer, tackle football, and studio wrestling. Somehow the girls win out . .. I think it's because us Dads are outnumbered.
The Spring campout is at another Pennsylvania state park - Cooks Forest. I'll be putting up a page for it in early summer so keep an eye on this space.
