The final campout of the season is held at Cooks Forest State Park near Clarion, Pennsylvania. Just like the fall event, we provide everything needed for the meals.  However, this time we stay at a private establishment called Deer Meadow Campground.  It provides water and electric hookups in addition to a camp store, pool, miniature golf, and playgrounds. There are many activities in the area besides those provided by the Cooks Forest State Park.

Saturday greeted us chilly and cloudy. So much so that half of the people who originally signed up for canoing backed out. The real troopers were rewarded with a beautiful sunny ride down the Clarion River.

As usual, the culinary event of the weekend was the rustic camp dinner. Well, really not so rustic . . . actually a full course meal with a super chili as an appetizer. We had salad, hot off the grill steak (topped with bernaisse sause and/or sauteed onions and/or sauteed mushrooms), potatoes (plain, with cheese, or with onions and cheese), corn, and pudding for dessert. Not to mention a little fruit of the vine to wash it all down - for the Dad's only of course.

The usual Saturday evening entertainment at Cooks Forest is at the local theatre but this season's was not suitable for all age groups so we had to fend for ourselves. One of the games from the Moraine campouts is a father-daughter soccer game. Actually it should be titles the father-daughter-no-holds-barred-killer -omething-like-soccer game. This time the Dads won 46-3 (don't forget "the victors write the history" . . . or should that be the web master writes the history!?).

The girls spent a few hours Saturday putting together a talent show. They started off grilling a few lucky Dad's in their version of "Who Wants To Be A Millioinaire?". Then we were treated to a song solo, short skits from "Beauty and the Beast" and also "Newsies". There were a couple of dances to Brittany Spears songs and another to "Mambo #5". One of the shorter skits started off great but then both of the girls got such a serious case of the giggles that they couldn't continue. All-in-all it was another great show.

Here is a special bonus. It's a large Quicktime movie file of the campout. Make sure you have a fast connection or enough time to download the 4 meg. file:

You will need Quicktime to view this. If you don't already have it you can download a free player at Apple.
